Lillibrooke Manor opened its doors to the public as well as the Prime Minister on Friday 30th September 2016 to host a Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning. A total of £2,000 was raised.
Hosted in Lillibrooke Manor’s chic and elegant ‘Great Barn’ the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ saw hundreds in attendance including local businesses showcasing everything from fine jewellery, books, skincare products and Christmas gifts.
An array of cakes and savouries, hand prepared by Lillibrooke’s expert chefs, were provided for those in attendance and stalls operated by local businesses donated goods and raffle prizes to help raise money for Cancer awareness. Additionally, face-painting, fairground rides and lawn games added to the fun and positive atmosphere for the younger guests. Around five hundred people attended during the morning, each taking a chance to soak up the late summer sunshine around the barns and grounds of Maidenhead’s stunning 15th Century venue.
Despite her heavy schedule, Prime Minister and Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead MP, Theresa May, found time to attend and show her support by touring the grounds, and talking to the local businesses and guests in attendance. The Prime Minister commented that Lillibrooke’s Great Barn provided the ‘ideal setting’ for an event such as this.
Val Pearson, MD for Heritage Venues Commented: “We were absolutely delighted to support Macmillan in its nationwide coffee morning and we are honoured to have the support of the Prime Minster at our event. The coffee morning was a great success and I am very happy to say that, together, we have raised £2,000 in support of an incredibly worthy cause”.
Local businesses included Isla Grace Jewellery, run by Holyport based Katie Topping, who commented: “Lillibrooke Manor is an amazing venue to hold this event and I was delighted to be able to meet Theresa May who gave her full support for the local businesses there.” Katie added, ‘The facilities at Lillibrooke are fantastic.”
Pearson continued: “Lillibrooke Manor is the perfect location for weddings, parties and corporate events but it was a real pleasure to share its important local heritage with our neighbours who had not had the opportunity to come to Lillibrooke before. Now that we have the stamp of approval from the Prime Minister, and such a positive response from visitors, we are very keen to hold more events like this to really support the community in the future”.
