It’s an exciting year to be getting married or planning a wedding – couples have never had so much freedom to express themselves and your wedding is the perfect occasion to personalise. Wedding site hitched shared their favourite 2016 wedding trends to inspire you.
Quirky Wedding Cakes

Cakes are no longer a formal four-tiered fruitcake, covered in marzipan and icing. You can express yourself with your wedding cake and choose something fun that represents you as a couple. We’ve seen a surge in popularity in single tiered wedding cakes, as well as wedding cake alternatives. This is where the couple eschews the cake entirely – instead, they pick a stack of brownies or a tower of doughnuts for a fun twist.

Colourful Wedding Dresses

Pink is the new white! We are loving the trend for wedding dresses with a hint of colour. Blush pink is perfect for princess brides, whilst Jenny Packham’s latest collection features a stunning light green gown with floral embroidery. If the idea of a coloured wedding dress makes you feel nervous, why not go for a dress with a subtle floral pattern or a coloured underskirt?

Casual Catering

Not a fan of the idea of a sit-down, three-course meal? Don’t worry. Casual catering is on the rise. Get creative with canapés and then serve your guests sharing platters of charcuterie, crusty bread, cheese and oils. Or why not set up a barbeque or look for a venue with a pizza oven so you can treat your guests to a wedding breakfast with a difference.

Rose Gold Hues

Gold and silver go with almost anything and add a dose of glamour to your wedding colour scheme. But this year it’s been rose gold’s turn to shine. The coppery hue will add warmth to your colour scheme and will look amazing on almost anything – from your cake to sparkly table cloths. You could even go for rose gold wedding rings to be super on-trend.

Warehouse Wedding Venues

Be ahead of the times with your choice of wedding venue, and choose one with an industrial feel. Exposed brickwork, beams and wooden flooring all provide the perfect blank canvas for any wedding theme. If you choose a warehouse style wedding venue (barns work well for this too!) soften it up with fairy lights, candles and a delicate colour scheme.

Pretty Pom-poms

Pom-poms and oversized balloons really add to your wedding décor and look amazing in your photos. To add even more of a twist to the trend why not pick pom-poms in an ombre colour palette or choose big balloons filled with confetti.

Photo Booths with a Difference

Everyone loves a photo booth – it’s a fact. But as they become increasingly common, it’s a trend to dress them up a bit. Instead of the classic booth, consider an oversized Instagram frame, a flower wall back drop or even a vintage car transformed into the perfect selfie spot. Don’t forget to encourage your guests to upload their snaps with your wedding hashtag!
